LaFollette Police officers were called to the Peoples Bank of the South branch bank at 2200 Jacksboro Pike just after 9:30 a.m. this morning. The suspect fled on foot.

The suspect was still at large at noon, resulting in several area schools being placed on lockdown.

According to retiring police chief Jack Widener, “a slim-built white male about 6’0″ in a black jumpsuit of sorts armed with a small caliber handgun” entered the bank at the intersection of Ridenour Lane and Jacksboro Pike, demanding money. Widener could not comment as to whether the man displayed a note or spoke to a bank teller as the investigation is ongoing.

Widener also stated that at the time of the robbery, the man was wearing black gloves and a black mask. Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been called in to investigate and analyze bank surveillance.
Roane State Community College, Campbell County High School, Jacksboro Middle School and Jacksboro Elementary School are all on lockdown as per their safety policies.
