It was a great weekend for local prep level anglers. Both the high school and middle school Campbell County Fishing teams had big weekends.
The high school anglers traveled to Hamilton County to fish on Nickajack Lake. Nickajack Lake holds the record for the largest freshwater drum ever caught. Benny Hull made the catch of the 54 pound 8 ounce drum in 1972. Over the weekend over 100 boats full of the best high school fishermen in the state blasted off early and after weigh ins the Cougar tandem of Riley Faulkner and Austin Smith had placed 5th on the day with a weigh in of 5 pounds 8.31 ounces.
On the middle school level it was an even bigger day. They traveled to Douglas Lake as part of the East Tennessee Youth Bass Trail. The young anglers from Campbell County took both second and third place in the event. Gabe St. John and Mason Dople took second with a weigh of 7.47 pounds. Reid Chapman and Mike Fritz took thirs with a weight of 5.56 pound.
