The Sheriff’s Office has been alerted to a scam in the area using the names of local law enforcement officers. It appears the scammer is calling residents and claiming to have a warrant number for their arrest. In exchange for payment they will have the warrant taken care of.
While this scam has been played several times, it is concerning that actual law enforcement officers names are being utilized to make this scam seem legitimate. Please remember to follow identify theft prevention tips and never give personal information over the phone. The Sheriffs Office and other local law enforcement agencies will NEVER request payment for anything over the phone. If you are in doubt about the legitimacy of a call, hang up and call a verified number for the agency in question to confirm the call.
