Mary Belle White Goins

Mary Belle White Goins, age 85, of LaFollette passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Member of Coolidge First Baptist Church, but had attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years. She had a special talent for painting and a great love for music and children. Retired as Plant Manager’s Secretary from Imperial Reading after 47 years. Preceded in death by husband, Henry Clayton Goins; parents, Horace M. & Laura Craig White; sister, Marcelle White Tackett

Betty L. Lindsay

Mrs. Betty L. Lindsay age 82 of LaFollette passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Tennova LaFollette Health and Rehab Center. She was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Franklin A. Lindsay, mother, Mary Irwin, father, Charles Heatherly, sister and brother-in-law, Azilea and Shirley Cordell, and brother-in-law, Paul Webb.

Survivors: Daughters, Rebecca Pitner and husband Harold, of Seymour, TN, Daughter, Linda Carson and husband Steve, of LaFollette; Grandchildren, Amy Murrell and husband Eric, of Apison, TN, Anna Robinette and husband John, of Seymour, TN, Kevin Wright, and wife Anya, of LaFollette, and Kasey McGhee and husband Jonathan, of Woodbury, TN; Great Grandchildren, Jessica and Nathan Murrell, Jake and Claire Robinette, Ben McGhee, and Brody Wright; Sisters, Lois Carroll and husband Fred, of LaFollette, and Levona Webb of Rockford, TN; Sister-in-law, Irene Lindsay of LaFollette. Funeral Services Thursday 5 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Corey Carroll and Rev. Mark Partin officiating. Interment to follow at Bakers Forge Cemetery. Silas Grant

Silas Grant, age 86, of LaFollette passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a Prisoner of War in WWII. He worked for the Shelby Warehouse, drove the Rolling Store, and retired from Rust Engineering in Oak Ridge in 1980. He was a founding member of Whitman Hollow Bible Church where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed being with his family, traveling as long as he could be home at night, going to the cattle market, and had a passion for farming. Mr. Grant’s family was his life.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Silas Mitt and Josie Grant, brothers Fletcher, Doyle, Lloyd, and E.L. Grant, sisters Begie Hatmaker, Mary Thompson, and Aileen Hill, and daughter-in-law Carla Sue Grant.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lenore Grant of LaFollette, sons George S. Grant of LaFollette and Jerome F. Grant and wife Veronica of Knoxville, daughters Vickie L. Huddleston and husband Eugene of Jacksboro and Sherry D. McCreary and husband John of Cumberland Gap, sisters Vivian Carroll of Dayton, OH and Betty Shetterly and husband Bill of Dayton, OH, grandchildren Mark and wife Judy, Jacob and Jason Huddleston, Joshua Grant, Heather Grant Watson and husband Jacob, Jonica and Jess-Anne McCreary, 3 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011 in the Martin Wilson Chapel with Pastor Alan Ragan officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011 with the American Legion Honor Guard Post 154 in charge of the graveside service in the Bakers Forge Cemetery. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Morton, Vance Lawson, Joshua Grant, Jacob Huddleston, Jason Huddleston, Ben Copley, Greg Miller, and honorary pallbearer Mark Grant.

Edward James “Chip” Newcomb

Mr. Edward James “Chip” Newcomb age 66 of LaFollette passed away Monday, October 3, 2011. He was a retired respiratory therapist, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist Faith, member of the National Board of Respiratory Care, Smoky Mountain Chapter of Respiratory Care, and American Association of Respiratory Care. Preceded in death by wife, Vina Louise Newcomb, parents, Jay and Evelyn Tompkins Newcomb.

Survivors: Children, Alana Creed of Lousiana, Patrick Newcomb and wife Vickie, of Alabama, Tim Branam of Jacksboro, Timmy Newcomb of Texas, and Marie Branam of LaFollette; Six Grandchildren, One Great Grandchild; Brothers, Don Newcomb and wife Amber, of Alpine, OR, Larry Newcomb and wife Mona, of Ketchum, OK, Walter Newcomb and wife Jocelyn, of Springfield, VA, and Richard Newcomb of Connecticut; Sisters, Jean Roeper and husband Gary, of Orlando, FL, and Tracy Lopez of Beacon, NY.
