Bertha Masingo Head Goad

Bertha Masingo Head Goad, age 97, of LaFollette passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at LaFollette Court Assisted Living. She was born April 18, 1914 in Speedwell, community of Claiborne County, to the late Charles Elmer and Lou Isabell Masingo – the second oldest of nine siblings. She was a 1937 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University and taught home economics and science for more than 30 years, retiring from LaFollette High School in 1976. She was a member of LaFollette First Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma teachers’ sorority and the order of the Eastern Star. Preceded in death by husbands, Charles McKinley Head and Joseph Henry Goad.


Daughter & Son-in-law: Wanda & JV Russell, Knoxville

Grandson: Robert Richart, Orangeburg, S.C.

Great-grandson: Colin Richart, Oak Ridge

Sister: Bonnie Page, Lake City

Stepson & wife: Joseph Henry Goad, Jr. & Sherry, Winchester, Va.

Many nieces and nephews and extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff of LaFollette Court Assisted Living facility for their loving care and support of Bertha during her last few years.

Beverly Ann Loy

Mrs. Beverly Ann Loy was a loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, and Teacher, of LaFollette. She passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 after a courageous but losing battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by family, relatives, and friends.

It was her wish to not have a public ceremony. Her family has requested that Beverly’s friends feel free to come to Walters Funeral Home on Friday from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. at their convenience to register and receive a memorial folder. Interment will be held in Fincastle United Methodist Cemetery.

Pat Garner, age 67, of Caryville, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011. President of Senior Citizen Center and very active as Line Dance instructor and leader of Folk Art Class. Preceded in death by husband, Jim Blackburn; father, Drexel Broyles of Campbell County; mother, Willie Owens of Fentress County.

Marie Suttles Meredith

Mrs. Marie Suttles Meredith age 89 of Douglasville, GA, formerly of LaFollette passed away Friday, December 23, 2011. She was a Charter Member of the LaFollette First Independent Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, James Raymond Meredith, parents, Rev. Foster and Mossie Moore Suttles.

Survivors: Son, James Raymond Meredith, Jr. and Wife Lula Bell, of Douglasville, GA; Granddaughter, Tina Meredith of Douglasville, GA; Grandson, Jeff Meredith of Douglasville, GA; Six Great-grandchildren, Two Great-great-grandchildren, Several special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Tuesday 8 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Moore officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday 10 A.M. at Campbell Memorial Gardens for graveside services and interment. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday before services at Walters Funeral Home. Lathern Brantley

Lathern Brantley age 92 of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011. He was a member of Mossy Springs Baptist Church in Union Co., but last attended Long Hollow Baptist Church. He served in WWII from July 1942 until December 1945 and was a member of DAV & TDF. Predeeded in death by parents Annias & Nancy Lynch Brantley, half sisters & brothers Stella McNeeley and Luvirney Smith, Ed Petree, Austin, Samuel & Jehue Brantley.
