Mr. Joe Monroe Carden

Mr. Joe Monroe Carden, Jr., 87, a life long resident of LaFollette, Tennessee,  passed away in Johnson City, Tennessee at the home of his daughter Monday February 7, 2011.

He was born October 24, 1923 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Joe Monroe Carden and Elizabeth Summitt Carden.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother Sam Carden.

Joe is survived by his wife Wanda Heatherly Carden of LaFollette, his daughter Karen Carden Green and her husband Richard (Dick) Green of Johnson City, Tennessee.  He is also survived by grandsons Joseph C. Green, wife Julie, their children Lucy, Katie and Heidi of Nashville, Tennessee and David M. Green, wife Ashley and their daughter Claire of Brentwood, Tennessee.

He is survived by brother Robert (Bob) Carden and wife Ellis of Richmond, Kentucky and sister Janice C. Morse Williams and husband Mac of Newport News, Virginia as well as six nieces and one nephew.

Mr. Carden was a Veteran of World War ll, serving in the European theater.

He attended Center College in Danville, Kentucky and University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

He was a Chrysler dealer in LaFollette in the early 1950s.  Joe was a former postmaster, Director of the LaFollette Housing Authority, Urban Renewal Director, and former City Councilman for LaFollette.

He was a life long member of First Baptist Church, having served as a deacon, treasurer and moderator for more than 30 years.  Joe was involved in starting the first couples’ class at First Baptist Church.

He was an avid golfer and had many wonderful friends.  He loved children and helping those who were less fortunate.

He leaves a legacy of honor, integrity, and love for his family and friends.

The burial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. for family and close friends.  Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick Green, Jody Green, David Green, Ben Rogers, Bill Wilson, Joe Mosier, and Deacons of First Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Bob Brown will officiate.

A receiving of friends will immediately follow the service.

Rosetta Byrd

Rosetta Byrd, age 88 of Lafollette passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of New Canaan United Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by Husband: Kermit Byrd. Mother: Lora Webb Crabtree. Father: Ewell Crabtree. Daughter: Alberta Byrd. Sisters: Dorthy Martino and Della. Brother: Herthel Crabtree. Son in Law: Stan Fraley. Sisters: Edith Love, Ruth Bolton and Ethel Crabtree. Brother: Jerry Crabtree.

Survived by Sons and Daughters in Law: Bill and Judy Byrd. Ralph Byrd. Gary and Debra Byrd of Jacksboro. Daughters: Faye Fraley, Janice Byrd and Joyce Byrd. Daughter and Son in Law: Sandy and Marvin Chambers of Lafollette. 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Brothers: J.H. Crabtree, L.B. Crabtree and Charles Crabtree. Sisters: Mabel Phillips, Margaret Honeycutt, Daisy Loyd, Opal Whisnant, Kathy Whisnant, and Ollie Chambers.

Funeral Service will be 8 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Adam Hunley officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Thursday in Campbell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday night before funeral service.

John Paul Rutherford

John Paul Rutherford, age 23 of Lafollette went to be with our Lord and Savior  Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County. He enjoyed being a great father. John Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the outdoors, computers, gaming, and many other activities.

John Paul is preceded in death by Grandmothers: Carrie Harmon and Fleda Wallace. Grandfather: Roy Wallace. Mother in Law: Patricia Shears.

John Paul is survived by Wife: Angie Comer Rutherford. Daughter: Leslie Sue Nicole Rutherford. Father: Paul Rutherford. Mother: Emma Rutherford. Grandfather: Sill Rutherford. Father in Law: Kermit Comer. Brothers in Law: John Shears and little Kermit Comer. John Paul is also survived by several uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be 8 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Don Allen and Rev. Junior Dilbeck officiating. Interment will be 1 PM Wednesday in Peabody Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday night before funeral service.

Mrs. Vina R. Gimple

Mrs. Vina R. Gimple age 59 of Farmington Hills, MI, formerly of LaFollette, passed away January 28, 2011, in MI.

Survivors: Husband, Chris Gimple; children, Brian and Kenneth; step-children, Kenneth, Justine, and Mark; grandchildren, Branden, Josh, Jennifer, Devin, Baily and Dillon; great-grandchild, Gage; brothers and sisters, Arlene Marlow and Harveyetta Coker both of LaFollette, Cathy Bolton of Jellico, Ronnie Bolton and Frank Bolton both of Duff, Earl Bolton of Williamsburg, KY, and Mack Bolton of Stoney Mountain, NC.  She will be sadly missed by all her friends and relatives.

Mr. Raymond M. (Buck) Lyons

Mr. Raymond M. (Buck) Lyons age 66 of LaFollette passed away Friday, February 4, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Campbell County.  He was of the Church of God Faith, formerly employed in the nursing/medical care field, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by sons, Davy Lyons and Joshua Lyons, parents, John K. and Evelyn Ross Lyons, and sister, Dorothy Lyons.

Survivors: Wife, Linda Lyons of LaFollette; daughters, Andrea Sue Counts and husband, Darrell of LaFollette and Melissa Cole Lyons of Jacksboro; sons, Michael Anthony Lyons and Rodney Kirk Lyons both of LaFollette; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Lyons and Joyce Ann Lyons both of Florida; brothers, James Lyons, Kenneth Lyons, David Lyons, and Albert Lyons all of Florida.  Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services Tuesday 1 P.M. at Walters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Bill Taylor officiating. Interment to follow at Powell Valley Cemetery and Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M.
