The Lady Cougars absolutely dominated the Lady Beavers last night, winning 73-31 after sinking a possible school record 18 3 pointers. Izzy Profitt (15pts) and Cora Browning (14pts) drained 4 each, while Bailey Gillum, Lilli Slover and Kayleigh Jordan dropped 3 each of their own on the evening.

Browning, Proffitt and Gillum’s 17 1st quarter points led to a 17-4 score after 1. After that it was bombs away from deep and relentless defense that led to the lopsided win.

The boys game was much closer. After getting out to a 9-0 start behind Devon Jones steals and layups the Cougars saw Karns leading 14-11 in the 1st after a Beaver run. The remainder of the half saw a back and forth battle with multiple Cougars carrying the team at times.

Riley Faulkner came off the bench and drained a pair of 3’s. Nate Walden was making shots from all over the gym. Will Lester had a quick 4 points. It was 32-32 after Walden scored with 2 seconds left in the half.

he second was more of the same. Noah Burden, Walden, Faulkner and Jones made big plays on offense. John Long, Seth Ward, Lester, and Bryson Horton played well on defense. The Cougars led by 9 after 3. They refused to relent in the 4th. Karns made a run but the Cougars played D, rebounded and made free throws allowing them to take the 71-65 win. Walden led the way with 21 points, Faulkner netted 15, and Jones had 14.

The Cougars have won consecutive district games for the first time since 2016-17.
