The Cougar Golf and Volleyball teams are having a great week already and it’s only Wednesday.

The Cougar stick swingers have won each match this season and have picked up multiple wins both Monday and Tuesday of this week. Coach Michael Cain’s squad has been getting strong play from Jack Leach, Sadie Cox, Molly Fields, Morgan Gray, Trevor Sharp, David Bates, Garrett Medley and Dom Zupancic. 2020 looks like it may be the year for that elusive Boys district team title that has been so close recently.

The Lady Cougars Volleyball squad went on the road Monday and picked up a win and yesterday they hosted district rival Powell at John R.W. Brown Gymnasium. The teams battled fiercely with Powell winning set one, the Lady Cougars taking two and three, then the Panthers taking set four. That left the teams with a race to 15 for the 5th and deciding set. The Lady Cougars closed out Powell with a Jenna Byrd ace.

The Lady Cougar team got high level play from Morae Owens on the outside. She stirred echoes of Anna Cain rising over the net to slam home winners. The team lost a lot of seniors last year and is fairly young this year, but senior Mackenzie Potts played a lot volleyball last season and she is a steadying force on the team. Savannah Jones also logged quite a few minutes last season in the middle at the net. The rest of the team is newer starters who look very good so far for Coach Renee Wormsley. Having not had camps, scrimmages and other summer work doesn’t seem to be holding back the team very much so far.
