Lindsay Horton

Saturday August 5th the Lady Cougar varsity and jv soccer squads traveled to Claiborne County to participate in a soccer jamboree. Each team played several 20 minute games throughout the day.

The Lady Cougar varsity won all 4 of their matches. They defeated Grainger County 1-0, Claiborne County 2-0, Middlesboro 3-0, and Union County 2-1. Senior sensation Lindsay Horton had an excellent day scoring 5 total goals. 1 vs Grainger, 1 vs Claiborne, 1 vs Middlesboro and 2 vs Union County. Juniors Drew Leach, Julia Isber and Samantha Lasley each added 1 goal on the day.

Coach Bryan Horton said of his team “We are showing so much improvement over last year when it comes to moving the ball and attacking the opponents goal. The fact that we were getting these scores in 20 minute games is particularly impressive.”

The junior varsity managed to tie Harlan County 0-0 and tie Union County 0-0. They picked up wins vs Middlesboro 1-0 behind a Keely Nelson goal, and a 3-1 win over Grainger County with goals by Nelson. Emily Mitchell and Kaitlin Perkins.

The Lady Cougars begin regular season play on August 14th at CCHS vs Powell 1st Baptist. It looks to be an exciting year for both varsity and jv action. I encourage all to attend and check out the team as well as the new stadium upgrades.
