Another event, another record for Lady Cougar sprinter extraordinaire Mackenzie West. In an indoor meet earlier in the season she set the CCHS record in the 60 meter hurdles. Now the action has moved to outdoor track and longer distances. West has done it again. She ran the 100m hurdles in a new school record of 15.64 seconds, eclipsing the prior record by .18 seconds. West, a senior, has her eye set on the state meet in Murfreesboro later this spring. For now, she will have 3 more meets in the regular season to try and better her new record.
In field events, Lady Cougar thrower Zoie Mefford took 1st place in the girls shot put event with a throw of 33’11” and 1st in discus with a throw of 95’8”. Mefford easily outdistanced 2nd place in each event, over 3 feet in the shot put and 6 feet in the discus throw.
