It has been a long time coming. The Cougars of Campbell County have not had much success in post season play of late. Now they have a pair of district tournament wins under their belt and are assured a trip to the region by virtue of Thursday night’s 64-53 win over the Red Devils of Halls.
The Cougars took command of the game early on in the contest and were able to basically retain a comfortable lead throughout the contest. The all-district duo of Nick Litton and Corey Poteet put on a scoring clinic throughout the game. At the end Poteet made several trips to the charity strip to seal the win for the Cougars. Poteet led all Cougars in scoring with 17 points. Litton had 14.
Guard play was also effective for the Cougars. Ethan Simpson was strong on both offense and defense and racked up 14 points of his own on the evening. Freshman phenom Trey Torres had 7 points before fouling out of a very physical contest. Tyler Chapman had 9 points from the post. Tuffy Shoupe had two points and Chase Lindsay had a point to round out the Cougars scoring. Stetson Moore of Halls had 28 points to lead all scorers in the game.
The Cougars now move on to face Karns in the semifinal match up that tips off at 6 on Saturday in Oak Ridge. The Lady Cougars will be playing Hardin Valley at 4:30 on Saturday in a semifinal game as well.
