At the beginning of the season nobody expected the District 3-AAA Boys Consolation game to feature a match up between Campbell County and Oak Ridge. The Wildcats were primed to dominate the district. The Cougars were primed to rebuild with a first year coach. Turns out the Cougars played like a team that had been together for a while and the Wildcats suffered a huge upset against Powell.
This set up a match up Tuesday in the evening’s opening game. The Cougars were able to keep it close for a half before Oak Ridge began to pull away. The Cougars eventually fell 64-51 to the host school.
Corey Poteet led all Cougars in scoring with 19 points, including 5 three-point baskets. He was the only Cougar to score in double digits.
Though they lost the Cougars are not done in tournament play yet. They travel to Maryville Saturday to take on the Rebels, who won the District 4-AAA tournament.
