After weeks of operating on a continuing resolution Campbell County now has a budget in place for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The commission ordered county finance director Jeff Marlow to trim the budget down to make sure there was no increase in the county’s property tax. Marlow did as he was told and presented a budget that will allow the property tax rate to remain at its current level of $1.76 per $100 of assessed value.
Part of the cuts included the commissioners losing their discretionary fund; this cut saved the county $4,000 per commissioner for a total of $60,000. Marlow also told the commission that he was able to see where more money would be coming into the county coffers from sources outside of the county. Finally the budget eliminates all increases to departments throughout the county.
The budget passed by a vote of 11-4. Tom Hatmaker, Sue Nance, Scott Stanfield, and J.L. Davis cast the no votes.
