It has been a magical season for Eagle golf. The 8th grade members of the squad have spent their middle school years building a dynasty. The team capped off a third straight undefeated regular season with district and regional titles. But their greatest challenge still stood in front of them. The Eagle’s boy’s team and Sadie Cox the individual qualifier from the Lady Eagles traveled to Maryville’s Green Meadow Country Club on Monday to challenge the best golfers in the state to see who would come out on top.
After a long and harrowing day on the links it was indeed Eagle Golf that came out on top. It was looking like Union Grove was the shoe in to win the title as their top seed had shot a 73. But this is a team title and the Eagles proved to be the best team by a stroke. Jack Leach led the Eagles as usual with a score of 82. David Bates was not far behind him with a score of 84. Blake Roberts (90) and Dominick Zupancic (101) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles, giving them a team score of 357, Union Grove finished with a score of 358. Garret Medley shot 102 for the Eagles but only the top 4 are scored.
Not to be outdone Lady Eagle Sadie Cox made the most out of her final middle school golf match. The Lady Eagle’s top scorer was able to place 4th in the state as an individual.
These final victories capped off the careers of some great Eagle golfers. But the dynasty is likely not over. The Eagles return Roberts and Zupancic from this year’s squad. The junior varsity program is strong.
Though this was a legendary season the story of Eagle golf is still being written.
