Today, Food City CEO Steve Smith, announced that the grocery retailer was implementing a mask requirement policy in all their locations. Food City joins Kroger and Walmart as major grocery retailers in our region who will require masks. The Food City policy takes effect July 23rd.
Food City also operates pharmacies inside most of their stores, making it another pharmacy with a mask policy. Walgreens Pharmacy also announced they would require masks, joining CVS and Walmart pharmacies in adopting the mask requirement.
“People will be required to put a face covering on when they come into our stores,” said Food City CEO Smith. “The reason is because we know that face coverings are the most successful thing that we can do to get this virus slowed down.”
Walmart, in announcing their mask requirements, kicked off a chain reaction of major retailers who are implementing similar policies. Target, Kohls, and Kroger quickly announced mask requirements beginning between July 22nd and August 1st in the wake of the Walmart announcement.
