Dan Turner was hired into the Campbell County School system because of a successful background as a football coach. At the time there was no indications he had any disciplinary issues on his record. Later he was let go after allegations and incidents at LaFollette Elementary School. According to the minutes of the 8-9-2016 meeting of the Campbell County Board of Education, “Attorney Cantrell stated Director Nidiffer has suspended a teacher for inappropriate conduct named Dan Turner. Mr. Turner has request due process hearing. Mr. Nidiffer will need to contact an impartial hearing officer from an approved list from the state. The board had a hearing similar to this about 3 years ago. Director Nidiffer will schedule a date with the hearing officer.” Turner was eventually released as a teacher in Campbell County.
Now he is facing and indictment for allegedly trying to lure a Pigeon Forge Middle School student into his office to show her nude photographs on his smart phone. Turner was coaching basketball at the middle school and football at the high school at the time of the incident. He is currently free on a $2,500 bond. Turner is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
