At November’s meeting, the council unanimously voted “Yes” to the sale of intoxicating drinks within city limits.
City Council member, Sarah McQueen, responded to the vote by saying, “We, as the people of Jellico, have watched for years as our tax dollars leave the area and have been spent at liquor stores to the north and south of us.” She added, “hopefully in the next few years we will be able to reap the benefit of our tax dollars staying local.”
The final reading of the ordinance, approving the rules and regulations, was then established at December’s meeting.

Mayor Dwight Osborn said, “I have no clue when that will start. I don’t have that information.” When asked his opinion on the matter, he responded, “I don’t think it’s necessarily beneficial for the city [to sell alcohol] but as far as tax revenue goes, it is.”
