Tuesday afternoon, July 14 the Jellico City Council held a special called meeting by virtue of Governor Lee’s executive order. The meeting was held by electronic means and the Jellico City Council joined together via the GoToMeeting app.
Mayor Osborn proposed the City apply for a Tourism Enhancement Grant. The purpose of this grant is to fund and develop a disk golf course for the Jellico community to enjoy. According to Osborn, the grant would help the City of Jellico improve their tourism assets and the grant can increase economic growth.
With a unanimous vote, the City agreed to apply. The grant will be given in an amount up to $75,000 and the City of Jellico agreed to provide a matching contribution of up to five percent of the grant award amount.
If the application is approved by the Department of Tourism Development, the City will provide the construction and maintenance of the disk golf course. Osborn hopes to install the course directly behind the baseball field in Jellico.
