Jerry Cross, age 76, of Caryville former State Legislator of 36th District and Campbell County Mayor, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents: Darb and Minnie Cross,brother: Paul Cross, In-laws: Ova & Flora Tackett.
He was a member of Caryville First Baptist Church. He was a distinguished veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service in the U.S. Army he returned home to Campbell County where he received a degree from LMU. He continued to serve his community as a teacher in the Campbell County School System. He was well respected and enjoyed his years in public service, first serving on the Campbell County Commision from 1966-1970. He went on to serve in the Tennessee House of Representatives 36th District from 1984-1998. His counties incuded: Campbell, Claiborne, Hancock and, Anderson. While serving in the House he served as Chairman of Conservation & Environment as well as Commerce & Agriculture. In 2002 he served Campbell County as Mayor until 2008. In his tenure Jerry served other capacities in the community including; President of Caryville Optomist Club, Member of Caryville Masonic Lodge, Shriners, VFW, DAV, and American Legion
