Cougar kicker and soccer star Thomas Johnson signed today with the Maryville Scots to play football. Johnson was a two year starter for the CCHS football program. He famously made the game winning field goal as the clock ticked to zero to give the Cougars a win over the Carter Hornets in 2019.
Johnson is a high academic acheiver at CCHS who sports a 4.3 GPA. He cited his love of the Scot’s campus and the persistence of Maryville coaches in recruiting him since 2019 as major factors in his decision to attend Maryville College. Cougar co-head coaches Justin and Matt Price also played football for the Scots.
Johnson won’t arrive on campus without a familiar face. Longtime friend and fellow Campbell county resident Joseph Paul, the outstanding quarterback and linebacker for Jellico High School also signed with the Scots for the class of 2021.
The pair’s dedication to academics and athletic pursuits should see them have a successful college career.
You can catch Thomas this spring on the soccer pitch at CCHS as he completes his time as a Cougar.
