Deputy Tosha Tackett was on patrol when she observed a vehicle run a red light on North Tennessee Avenue in LaFollette. The vehicle then swerved across lanes and then the median. Tackett initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle finally came to a stop in the middle of North 5th Street.
The driver, identified in the report as Christina Jones, 28 of LaFollette. The report indicates that Jones had slurred speech and was having difficulty keeping her eyes open. When asked for license, registration, and insurance information Jones stated insurance on the vehicle. Upon checking with dispatch it also turned out that Jones was driving on a suspended drivers license. When Jones was asked to step out of the vehicle she was reported to be unsteady on her feet. Jones stated that she could not stand and was taking the medications clonazepam and gabapentin, which she stated that she was prescribed.
A search of Jones turned up a pill bottle that contained two different varieties of pills and money. Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Campbell County Jail.
Jones is charged with failure to yield, failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence, driving while suspended, violation of the Tennessee Financial Law, and possession of a Schedule V controlled substance.
This is her third booking into the county jail.
