Hannah owens puts up a shot against Hardin Valley

The Lady Hawks of Hardin Valley are one of the few teams to take the Lady Cougars to the limit this year. It briefly looked like they would do so again at Wildcat Arena in Oak Ridge Saturday afternoon. During the District 3-AAA tournament semifinals the Lady Hawks played the Lady Cougars close for three quarters before falling 60-46. This sets up a rematch in the finals against the one district foe that was able to defeat the Lady Cougars this season, The Lady Mavericks of Anderson County.

The first half of the game saw the Lady Cougars in foul trouble and playing several reserves. The Lady Hawks looked like they were about to go into halftime with the lead before Courtney Morris fired off a three point bomb from well beyond the three point arc to make the halftime score 23-21.

The second half saw the Lady Cougars come alive as Maria Foust started the quarter out with a scoring flurry. Shayla Goins, playing with three fouls, came off the bench to put up 6 fourth quarter points to widen the Lady Cougars lead. It also did not hurt the Lady Cougars that they shot 22 free throws in the second half.

Morris and Kristin Chapman lead all scorers’ with 13 points, Chapman also had 10 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in the contest. Goins had 12 points in the game, all in the second half. Foust had 8 points before fouling out with over 4 minutes remaining in the game. Courtney Miller had 6 points.
