Emily Ellison nails a trey against William Blount

This year has been a banner year for the Lady Cougars. They picked up a rare victory at Wildcat Arena in Oak Ridge earlier in the season. On Friday night they picked up what has to be considered the biggest win yet in the Brad Honeycutt era as they defeated the Lady Governors of William Blount, a team that defeated the Lady Cougars by a pair of thins margins earlier this season, for the team’s first regional tournament victory in over a decade. This time the Lady Cougars came out on top 49-47 to stay alive in the post season

It was a battle back and forth the entire game which saw the Lady Cougars put forth one of the best team efforts in school history. Skylar Boshears led all Lady Cougars with 17 points on the evening. Madison Brady had a big night on the boards both offensively and defensively. Haley Comer, Blair Medley, and Lexy Richardson all had great defensive efforts.

The evening’s break out star though was sophomore guard Emily Ellison. Ellison picked up some key moments in the game. She had 13 points on the evening and put her body on the line as she took four charges against the Lady Governors. Perhaps her biggest moment came as there were 21.1 seconds remaining in the contest. Ellison took the in bound pass and was intentionally fouled by a Lady Governor. She sank both shots to extend the Lady Cougar lead to 48-44.

Now the Lady Cougars will travel to West Knoxville to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Bearden in the regional semifinal. The winner is guaranteed a spot in the substate rou.nd of the tournament, the loser hangs up the uniforms for the season. Tip off for the regional semi final is Monday February 26th at 7:30 PM at Bearden High School.
