Skylar Boshears takes a shot as Oak Ridge double teams her

It was a cold and rainy night in Solway but the action was hot in the Karns High School gymnasium as the Lady Cougars of Campbell County and the Lady Wildcats of Oak Ridge battled it out for the District 3 AAA Tournament title.

The Lady Cougars came out of the gate strong and were up 15-8 in the first quarter. Haley Comer got on the scoreboard first for the Lady Cougars and it took Oak Ridge three minutes to even get a point. Lexie Richardson got the Lady Cougars going in the second quarter with a basket of her own. But the Lady Wildcats adjusted and ended the half trailing the Lady Cougars 24-21.

The Lady Wildcats tied it up early in the third and after a back and forth series of shots took the lead 33-31 as the third quarter was winding down. The final quarter started with the Lady Wldcats holding a 42-35 advantage as the Lady Cougars staged a furious rally. They closed the gap to a mere two points but in the end it was Oak Ridge that pulled out of Karns with a 47-40 win to take the district tournament title.

Madison Brady led the Lady Cougars with a dozen points. Haley Comer had a double double in the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

After the game Skylar Boshears, Madison Brady and Haley Comer were named to the all tournament team.

Now the Lady Cougars must get ready for a rematch with the Lady Admirals of Farragut, one of three teams that have beaten them this year. The stakes are much higher this time as it is the first round of the Region Tournament and it is an elimination game.

The Lady Cougars will host this game in the friendly confines of the John R.W. Brown Gymnasium on the campus of Campbell County High School Friday night with tip off set at 7.
