Journey Williams had a great day on the track in the Cougar’s home meet

A half dozen high school track teams made their way up the Hill to compete in the first Cougar track meet of the season. The Cougars competed against Anderson County, Claiborne County, Union County, Clinton, and King’s Academy.

The Lady Cougars scored 100 points to win the meet. Emily Mitchell won the girl’s long jump. Audrey Bishop and Bailey Gillum placed first and second respectively in the 400 meter. Bishop also won the 200 meter. Erica Brock took third in the shot put and discus. Journey Williams was third in the 100 meter hurdles. Jolene Phillips, Leah Sanders, Emily Mitchell, and Samantha Lasley made up the 4×100 meter relay team who took second place. Morgan Branam, Journey Williams, Lexi Higginbotham, and Samantha Lasley took second in the 4×200 meter relay. Emily Mitchell took third in the 200 meter. Audrey Bishop, Olivia Branam, Bailey Gillum and Victoria Hembree took third in the 4×400 meter relay.

The Cougars scored 103 points to place second behind Claiborne County on the day.

Christian Shouse had a big day on the track. The Carson Newman signee paced first in discus Anb, 110 meter hurdles, and joined Devlin Dukes, John Allen Arnold, and Anthony Lawson for first in the 4×200 meter relay. Shouse also took third in the high jump.

Devlin Dukes won the triple jump and took second in the 110 meter hurdles. Anthony Lawson and John Allen Arnold took second and third in the 400 meter.Arnold was also third in the 200 meter while Lawson took third in the long jump. Drake Pyle was second in the high jump. Limere Turner, Eli Fields, Drake Pyle, and Desmond Gilbert were third in the 4×200 meter relay.
