Last Friday Deputy William Bumgardner was dispatched to Overlook Lane in Caryville in response to a call about a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival Deputy Bumgardner made contact with the victim, Gabriel Verge. The victim stated that his mother had attempted to stab him and that then she exited the residence through the back door.

Deputy Bumgardner went through the back door where he found Amy Salmon. When Deputy Bumgardner went out the door the report indicates that Salmon then came at him with a knife prompting the deputy to draw his sidearm and order her to drop the knife. At first the report indicates that Salmon stepped towards him and pointed the knife in the deputy’s direction prompting him to order her to drop the weapon again. This time Salmon complied and placed the knife on a desk. Deputy Bumgardner then ordered Salmon to lay down on the ground with her hands placed behind her back. She was then handcuffed and placed in the police car.

At this time emergency medical personnel were checking on the victim. The EMS did not have to transport the victim as his stepfather took him to an urgent care facility to tend his wounds. The defendant stated that she planned to cut the victim’s throat.

Salmon was transported to the county jail where she was charged with Aggravated Assault by Domestic Violence and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.
