On December 4, 2019, a Scott County jury found Verna Rose Wright, of Oneida, Tennessee, guilty of Theft over $10,000 and Official Misconduct. Ms. Wright misappropriated more than $49,000 dollars from the Oneida School Cafeteria account while working as the School Nutrition Supervisor for the Oneida Special School District. Scott County Criminal Court Judge Shayne Sexton scheduled a sentencing hearing for February 3, 2020.
This case was investigated and prosecuted by Philip Job with the office of the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury. Other investigators from the Comptroller’s office and employees of the Oneida Special School District assisted with the investigation and testified at her trial.
At trial, the state was represented by Assistant District Attorney General Thomas E. Barclay.
