For the last decade one man has been a constant for Cougar Basketball. Players and coaches have come and gone but Shayne White.
His love of the game started all the way back in his days as a Valley View Bobcat. Coach Brent Peel brought Shayne on board for his tenure as a Bobcat.
Moving on to LaFollette Middle School Shayne stepped away from the gym and made his way to the gridiron. Shayne donned the Orange and White as an honorary captain for Owl Football.
His junior year was a pivotal moment when he met then Cougar Basketball Coach Matt Housley. He spent his junior and senior seasons as team manager. Upon graduation Housley bestowed the title assistant coach upon White. Even after the departure of Coach Housley Shayne continued to bleed Blue and Orange. He spent the next two seasons with Coach Darrell Cox.
Shayne decided to hang up his cougar career following the 2020 season. At the final home game, prior to the Cougars battling the Central Bobcats, Shayne was honored for his years of dedication to the Cougar Nation. The ovation he received from the crowd said it all. In that moment the crowd returned the love to him that he had poured into Cougar Athletics over the years.
Is Shayne done for good? Hopefully not. He still has much love and dedication and maybe after a hiatus he will return to some sideline somewhere.
