Shortly after midnight on Tuesday Deputy Cody Douglas clocked a vehicle going between 60-65 miles per hour while straddling and in one instance crossing the double yellow line on Queener Road in Caryville. Douglas initiated a traffic stop on the car driven by Jimmy Darrell Rains, age 43 of 354 Clear Lake Drive. Rains reportedly told Douglas that he sped up out of fear because he did not have a driver’s license. Rains produced an non driver’s license identification and stated that his license was suspended due to his lack of insurance. Rains was also unable to produce proof of insurance and registration on request of Douglas.
When Douglas asked Rains if he had anything in the car that could potentially cause him harm Rains reportedly stated that he had a pair of hypodermic needles in the console. Rains also reportedly admitted to having two strips of suboxone in his wallet, one turned out to be unopened and the other pack contained half of a strip.
Douglas was arrested and transported to the county jail. He was charged with driver’s failure to exercise due care, possession of a schedule III controlled substance, violation of registration law, violation of TN financial law and driving while suspended.
