The Cougar softball team welcomed neighboring Scott High to campus for their 2021 Senior Night game.
Brenna Rutherford, Logan Ross, four year Cougar softball players, as well as two year player Alyssa Brown and senior year player Gracie Kirby were honored in the pregame.
The game was a thriller that went from a pitchers duel to a late game hit parade. Scott took a slim 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning when the Cougars began to push runs across the plate. Ultimately CCHS pushed across four runs in the inning and took a 5-2 lead into the 6th inning.
The Highlanders had a solid 6th inning, pushing across two more runs, making it 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th inning with the Cougars back up at bat. Timely hitting by Amber Morris and Cora Browning helped CCHS push its lead to 7-4.
Brenna Rutherford managed to pitch out of a jam in the top of the 7th, ending the Highlander hopes with the tying run at home plate.
